What brand external Hard Drive should I get?

I found about 5 worth of best buy gift cards in one of my drawers, so I decided to buy an external hard drive. I’ve decided that I want to get a 1 TB, but I don’t know what brand to get. Any suggestions?

get the same brand as the hard drive you have in your system
    you know that’s ok

I would stick with Western Digital or Seagate. They normally have the best warranties in case anything goes wrong with them. Keep in mind external drives do crash though, so keep a second backup just in case.

Western Digital is a good brand. Seagate is also a good brand.
The high performance HDD are the Western Digital Raptors, but they can be pricey.

I’m personally a fan of Western Digital, and have heard some bad things about Seagate’s external drives, but your best bet is to search Best Buys site, find a few that are in the size and price range you’re looking for and check out their reviews on various sites including Best Buy, Amazon.com and Newegg.com

Each model is slightly different so while one version from WD may be great, another might be a complete brick.
